Strange Parts Inside a Dryer in a Mining Plant

08/12/2020 1:42 AM

Hi guys,

Just to remind, I work in a mining plant in Madagascar.

I would ask you about these parts which have been found inside a dryer here.

We don't know where are these from.

For who know more about the field could you help me recognize them please?

We struggle with a long breakdown.

I would contact the manufacturer or distributor, or procure an operating manual....

Does it look anything like this?

Maybe you don't need those parts...if it's operating...Who took it apart in the first place? Maybe those are rotating wheels and a spring mount for the assembly...Since the moving parts are usually the first to fail, I would examine area for clues....

What does "found inside" mean? Were the parts properly installed in working equipment or were they found thrown inside equipment that was out of service and partially disassembled (meaning they might not belong there).

The obvious guess would be for control of mechanical vibration and mechanical shock. Does the scale of the unit and the other things that we can't see support the suggestion that the spring was/is used for mounting parts subjected to vibration/shock and the weights are used to control resonant frequencies?

we saw a leak from the dryer door and did inspection inside. We found these parts which don't belong to the equipment. That's why I asked you about them.

You are going to get a lot of WAG. Here is mine:

These parts are unused parts of a suspension system. The disk is used to shim a compression spring and distribute the mechanical load onto a larger area. The expansion spring lifts a support cable end to support something from above, possibly a hose or power cable. A closeup examination of the support cable might reveal if this was cut or broke.

Without a detailed drawing of the internal components, the best I can do is a guess.

If you do not have this information, contact the manufacturer and request it.

Also, you could google it by name, model and serial number.

Sometimes a PDF file is available for just about everything.

It looks like part of a clutch/brake device that applies or removes mechanical motion when weigh exceeds a certain amount, perhaps to engage or disengage a drive or inlet/outlet valve,or perhaps a torque limiter,to prevent damage if overloaded.Looks like there was a washer on the left hand part,so look for a threaded shaft or bolt,as well as the washer and nut.

There should be other smaller parts to be found, such as a nut, washer, or shaft ,perhaps passed on through to the accumulator or discharge bin.

Look diligently for these parts, using a magnet to sweep the material that passed through immediately before the failure. and the purpose may become clear.

Good luck.

OH NO!

You removed the amulets!

Put them back. Put them back!

I won't be held responsible if you don't.

PUT THEM BACK!

It is hard to imagine how it traveled through the duct work to arrive in the dryer body. My guess is a sway brace for a pipe or duct upstream, not sure that both parts are related, though.

Your drier looks like a little cement kiln.

As per the parts, 2 questions to be verified in parallel:

1. Origin... For the spring... vibrating conveyor, dosing feeders, suspended load damper.... Check you equipment upstream... Including the feeding mobile machinery (excavators, cart loaders..) if apply.

2. How thid this parts pass the metal trap, magnetic separator, metal detector, diverting gate..??..(assuming they exist in your installation) .. With a flowsheet could be possible to narrow down possibilities.

Cheers,

Three possibilities :

1. These are known as the extra parts or discarded parts left on the jobsite by previous workers.

2. Often assemblies arrive missing specific parts or fasteners, then technicians are called in with the help of engineers to resolve the issue .

3. An assembly has failed and catastrophic failure is imminent.

The one on the left is a saw or grinding wheel collar. The one on the right is a spring tensioner on a cable or guy wire. They could have come from just about anywhere in the mining operation and not necessarily from that equipment.

There is no telling. Possibly down line there is a valve or door that may adjust to vacuum relief as the spring may act as a dampener. the large washers could be there to distribute the force on the ductwork, as it is usually thin metal.

They may be parts from the dryer transmission. Is it making strange noises?

Do you have one of these transmissions in the drive system?

Looks like part of a reciprocating Dingle Arm.
