Solar Panels! What if you could build a home that only needs 30% as many panels?

07/22/2008 10:52 AM

Is there any structural engineers or home builders online that would be interested in looking into the latest building system for homes and commercial? The system is for the entire shell of the building not just walls like others. It is Florida approved and is actually better in northern climates.

YES1!!!1!!!!!

What might this system be? I have my doubts though...considering the amount of energy available per m2 and the fact you say its better in the northern climates (where there is less energy, then in the south). But then again, ive heard of solar panels that will produce power at night, so send me a mail or post a link.

Ah, so the premise of lowering the need for solar panels is by making the house more efficient. Its more or a 'Make the house 70% more energy efficient', right? If it is, your insulation technologies should be very good for heating, but I should probably say that solar panels dont have too much of a heating application in a home, compared to Natural gas, propane, oil, ect. Your improved insulation will however save significant $$ in cooling costs, which are generally electric costs. But, i dont think that alone will reduce total power load by 70 %...

I guess what i am curious about is how you will lower the amount of solar panels so much?

btw! great website for such a small company and i like the way its heading!

In your area solar is not a good option, but the homes that have been built have a 70% lower electric bill than normal... So if you use 70% less you would only need 30% of the panels or natural gas in your area...

Thanks for the positive responce...

Come on you guys, Don't hold out on us! Give us the link so we can all join in!

I'm on an economy drive at the moment looking at ways to reduce my electric bill!

I have the copper tube ready to build Del's water heater although I will be using Joe's pre heater super spiral to hopefully get instantaneous hot water without too much glass on the roof! This, I hope will cut my bill by more than half! The lights on my patio are in the process of getting changed to solar and I'm playing with a 1.8m satellite dish by covering it in silver duct tape (one better than silver foil!) to try and do something with that! (Don't know what yet but it's fun trying!)

Don't be shy Kelly! This is CR4, Just like chatting to your mates down the pub!

I don't think it has the size to produce too much usable energy, but you've got to give it a go, even if it only boils a cup of tea in 5 Min's then it's going to be a great cup of tea!

My biggest problem is sourcing materials! If it has something to do with tomato's or melons, I can get it, otherwise it's a long drive in the sun or use a bit of gumption!

I remember my buddy telling me he wanted to do what you are doing then put a small stirling engine on the focus site. He thought he could produce a pretty good amount of electricity from it. I know there are people on here who know how these engines work and maybe they will give a bit of an explanation on how to get it set up. I wouldnt mind hearing how, myself.

I've looked into the Stirling engine and steam turbines but my dish is too small to produce any real off grid experience! Stirling Stan is quite up on his engines and if you search the CR4 archive you should be able to find quite a lot of info! I'm also hunting for a fresnel lens! The mind boggles, the neibours worry, and my missus thinks I've lost the plot! It's the nature of the beast, an engineer with spare parts and crazy ideas!

The company is just now on the market and starting to take applications for dealers wordwide and the US...

In Canada I guess wind would be a better option?

good morning may i address you as kelly ?

the idea of wind power generation is already being dealt with for newfoundlandthe invention by mrs. and mr. carrosi will prove itself to be useful for the newfoundlanders. we will try to contact the two groups we have in that province, one is within the newfoundland ministry of energy and resources and the other operates through a very large sea food processing company. we do not assume they will contact though, that is their choice to make. while it will have in my opinion limited use other than in commercial high rise applications as a re common in southern ontario.

for us here in ontario the solar panels are being sought not just for residential application but in conjunction for two projects we are loosely associated with, both are for economical development of low profile residential developments for persons with disabilities(Helga) and seniors(the forcibly retired me) still living or retired from working thier work life in south central ontario's main tourist region of the niagra escarpment and chemical valley regions.

any info wil be greatly appreciated and shared with the rest of the I.C.C.C.or Innovators Co-operative Council of Canada.

thank you

Helga and John La Berge
