Video Editing

03/15/2009 7:33 AM

I've downloaded a '.mov' video to photbucket which plays ok in Realplayer, (it's in 'portrait' format. In photo bucket it plays in 'Landscape'. Grrrr.
I'd also like to crop some of the frame top and bottom. Anyone recomend some free basic video editing software...(I have searched, band there is loads out there).

I use Windows movie maker, its free to download from Microsoft and its a good basic package.

Obviously if you want to edit large videos, say a film or something, you need masses of memory and processing power, but for the odd 5Meg to 20 meg video its fine!!

You can download a free software to convert between file types and possibly change aspect ratios as well from the following website: http://www.erightsoft.com/

Del, I used Extra Video Effect Editor http://www.dvdcopyrip.com/extra-video-effect-editor.html to rotate video successfully and easily. I had forgotten that the digital camera in video mode doesn't rotate with normal camera software. It has those other features for cropping, add music, cut bits out etc. Worth a look.

It was free at the time at http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ but I think the above has download available.

Hi Del, check these links, it depends what platform or system software you are using.

If you just want a good overall player, try VLC, found here:

'It's a free download'
That's easy for you to say...the microsoft sites are harder to navigate than the shifting sands of the sahara, they are...well I hardly need say more...
I could find lots of hints and tips and extras to download...on that link you gave but not the actual
'Movie Maker' download.
I'm afraid I quit before my blood pressure went throught the roof...
calm calm...I hate microsoft
maybe it's me...maybe I'm thick...maybe I shouldn't have got up this morning...I don't s'pose anyone wants to see my poxy video anyway

Arrrghh...I just had another look..thought I'd found it...nah...it's another 'sign up to a load of crap you don't want' or they say put on automatic updates..!!! Well that's on anyway...
Why is it beyond the wit of microsoft to have a simple 'download moviemaker' button that works??? Everyother company in the unverse manages to do it.

Del

(Not ranting at you Panda buddy...I think I might just reshoot the vid', but better this time..)

Drat...good try, I got past the 'circle jerk' page and downlaoded...but it came up with an error and wouldn't install..
The machine is full of ghosts today, and doesn't like me.

The combination of this prog and Electroman's recomendation would have done the job too....

Maybe if you quit looking for reasons to hate Microsoft and whining about everything not being handed to you on a silver platter you could try going to to the MS downloads site and go straight to it... try http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=d6ba5972-328e-4df7-8f9d-068fc0f80cfc for vista

Thanks, but too late...I got there in the end via a third pary.
Yes you are quite right, I should accept poorly contructed inconsitent bloated software and circle jerk web pages full of window dressing with humility.
I must desist from expecting the 'simple and reliable', and join in with the demand for over complex irritating products which are generally a triumph of presentation over content.
Please except my sincerest appologies....
Del

(PS As for wanting everything handed on a plate...I suggest you check out some of the blogs and stuff I've done on my profile...
I do stuff and make things, I most certainly don't want everything 'on a plate' except where it is offered as such)

Right, video editing software that doesn't recognise '.mov' files
No legitimate complaint there then?

Windows Movie Maker or iMovie, it's free, but ...

I use Video Editor, a cheap tool. you can edit your MOV video easily, crop, trim, split, join, etc.

You can also use another app like Inshot for editing photos and videos. In Inshot you can create a video with music, filters and combine two videos together. You can manage film, split it, erase undesirable areas, change the volume of each clasp, copy a few, pivot or flip others, make freeze outlines, accelerate a clasp, play it in the opposite, or move chosen cuts around. For a little versatile application, it has all that you'd anticipate. You can download Inshot on your pc and android also.
