Space Golf

A space walk is planned for hitting a golf ball from the International Space Station. The sponsors have stated that the ball will enter the earth's atmosphere in about three days. NASA disagrees, advising that it will orbit the earth for three years. What do you think will happen if the ball is struck in a direction opposite the station's?
