if you had a smooth 16 ounce tin can that makes a slushy sound when shook and floats in tap water what could be in the can?

Slushy stuff in a can that floats.

It may have been solid once, so be careful when you open it and hold your nose.

a small amount of something like sand, salt, sugar...anything granular would make a "slushy sound" when shaken (not shook). As long as the amount is not displacing enough air (or whatever other gas may be in the can) it will float...

This surely has to go down as The most pointless question Ever asked anywhere so I suppose you have achieved something. This cannot be answered by anyone except you - why don't you just open the can (as pointed out by others), unless of course the can opener is inside the can and that is what is making the noise. I'm off now to bang my head against a brick wall .

Wouldn't it be nice if the folk who wrote stuff like that (or the sub-editors or whoever) learnt not to write crap like:

"First we need to find the drag force on the bullet (a very complicated mathematical formula which is the square of its velocity proportional to its surface area)"

and

"The average UK household needs a constant power consumption of about 2.5 kilowatts"

?

take the can back where you likely biought it & compare similiar cans to it . When a

can with a similiar code is found it's likely the contents are the same

I guess you haven't posted a photo, as then it would be too easy?

So on the "clues"; you're near Detroit and the can had a paper label at some point (now lost), and is 'old' un-ribbed issue;

1. a product from ESSO circa 70's, when they canned oils, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, coolant, you name it.

2. canned fruit (way out of date)

3. PVC primer (if it has a not mentioned screw cap)

4. with luck, 300 g of nitroglycerin (under a low density filler) (now gassing) (shake harder)
