The race to commercialize space, that is. They're offering two cash prizes - one to make the strongest tether, the other to use wireless technology to lift items. These prizes, referred to collectively as the Centennial Challenges, are open to all participants. I see this as an interesting step since NASA still has not condoned space visits by laypeople (unless on specific, approved scientific trips).
