Dry Ice

04/24/2010 8:18 AM

Is the amount off dry ice enough in the container to cool 48 kg steel from 80 °C to 20 °C?

Container is W=0.8 m (0.58) Depth 0.6m (0.37) H= 1.05 m (0.69) (inside dimensions)

I have to open the container 16 times on 12 hours

0.4W/m2/°C

density of dry ice 1.2-1.6 kg/dm3

Specific heat 0.8kJ/kg/°C

I am trying to see where the amount of dry ice is specified....

If the container is completely full, where do you put the steel to cool it?

Why in the world would you use dry ice for this? Cold water, lad, cold water.

Your post has abundant information. However, it is not connected in a logical manner.

How intimate is the dry ice in contact to the precious cargo?

What the hell are you trying to do?

I can put 3 steel bars in the container on an holder.

There is 100mm of empty space in the container at the beginning.

Max amount of dry ice 5,8x3,7x5.9 dm =126dm3x1.3kg/dm3=163 kg

Good luck with your homework, but try to get the numbers right next time.
