The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a new director. William Alan Jeffrey was confirmed by the US Senate and will now succeed Arden Bement. Jeffery, will be the 13th NIST Director. Prior to his position at NIST, highlights of his lengthy career include serving as senior director for homeland and national security and as the assistant director for space and aeronautics at the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) within the Executive Office of the President. He also spent time in the Advanced Technology Office and as the chief scientist for the Tactical Technology Office with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
