Saw this in my twitter feed, but twitter's limitations mean I didn't get the backstory.

Clearly, they didn't haul an audio microphone 4 billion miles because sound doesn't travel in space. So, how is this sound being produced? Is it radio waves being transformed for our listening pleasure, X-rays (can't imagine), or physical vibrations of the comet body being transformed into audio?

scientists say they don't know the "precise physical mechanism" behind the sound, but it appears to be caused by particles released by the comet becoming charged as they move out into space.It picked up the sound during a magnetometer experiment.
