What To Do Under Cap and Trade

Posted October 11, 2009 8:11 AM

A report recently came our way that analyzes greenhouse gas emissions and associated costs and aims to help companies prepare for the implementation of a cap and trade system. The study examines the risks, costs, and opportunities related to greenhouse gas emissions from a range of industries including chemical companies, food and beverage, healthcare, industrial goods and services, personal and household goods, automobiles and parts, and retail operations. Is your company prepared or planning for a cap and trade environment?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Material Handling, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Material Handling today.

Most of the "preparation" by the Engineers with whom I am in contact is to laugh, and then write their congressmen to eliminate the threat of this Globalist ponzi-scheme. No one who can think clearly with facts will ever support or vote for any candidate who would support this attack on the successful producers of the world.

Since there is ZERO scientific basis for even the concept of capping Carbon emissions, and the entire history of biology 101 to show that Carbon emissions benefit the local environment - as we know elevated CO2 levels result in faster, greener growth and it's absorbed almost immediately. There is therefore ZERO basis for Cap & Trade, other than political and monetary control and theft.

Therefore, the entire scheme is blatantly corrupt and blatantly based on corrupt organizations with banking/profit maneuvering for both skimming this new virtual-market and the political power that comes from having total control over the entire industrial world.

Cap & Trade is like the wet-dream of totalitarian moochers and their world-bank market financiers. Why stick with stifling only selected industrial producers, when you can scam the profits out of ALL of them in one fell swoop world-wide? Reward those who buy into your scam by building and producing only where you give them subsidies and breaks, and sticking it to the rest?

Sweet deal, as long as you are not in the "Cap" target crosshairs, and you're on the "Trade"/commissions side of the deal.

Now, if we could just stick to actual Toxins released into the environment, and get back to concentrating on efficiency as it relates directly to stretching the lifespan of our available fossil fuels, and let the market pricing direct us into the best alternative energy sources as the technologies develop.

No government intervention needed - just get the heck out of our way.

GA to you! I and most people I know agree with you wholeheartedly. I wouldn't have said as calmly or eloquently as you did, however.

I don't understand how anyone would consider your post unrelated to the topic.

The refining industry is preparing by planning to shut down approximately 40% of the U.S. refineries, building new refineries elsewhere in the Americas, and importing the refined products. All this year they have cancelled or delayed projects while they wait to see if Congress passes a "Cap and Trade" scheme. It will absolutely trash the Oil and Gas business, but that's just fine with the people in the White House and the majority in both the House and the Senate. They hate all fossil fuels, they hate nuclear power, and they have no understanding of the dynamic market. People and businesses don't stand still, they respond to tax regulations. The architects of this plan think that refiners will pay wind farmers for tax credits, thus funding the "green, earth-friendly" energy producers at the expense of the "evil, polluting" fossil fuel energy producers. In reality, they'll just shut down and lay off, and then re-open in Mexico, where they won't have to worry about Cap and Trade, or for that matter the last 30 years of clean air legislation.

If you want to discuss this further, I'll be under the nearest overpass with a cardboard sign. We're closing at the end of the month due to drastically reduced business from our refining clients, all of whom have cited Cap and Trade as the reason for the cutbacks in capital project budgets.

If I had a company that would be affected by Cap and Trade I'd move my business to China or India where they are not so stupid to hurt their economy by passing such a stupid and illegal law. The fact is so called greenhouse gasses are not affecting global climate at all. Cap and trade is just another way for the present administration to control the economy and raise taxes on everyone ( and yeah they aren't going to tax the middle class, well not directly but who do you think is going to pay the cost of cap and trade????? Not the politicians.
