Lung-on-a-Chip

Researchers in the pharmaceutical industry have progressed from lab-on-a-chip technology to lung-on-a-chip. This mini-organ is a first of its kind and features realistic tissue behavior, an artificial alveolus, cells that mimic a capillary wall, and cells that mimic lung epithelial cells. No larger than a multivitamin capsule, the ersatz lung will provide a brand new testing method for laboratory drug research.
