Posted December 07, 2011 7:36 AM

The lead article this month examines the cost benefits of green chemicals. Given all of the benefits of going green, it appears as if the industry is on the verge of a revolution.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Chemical Manufacturing, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Chemical Manufacturing today.

Let me take a guess.

The cost benefits from going "green" are derived from the fact, that if you don't, the government will fine and regulate you out of business.

See how much money you're saving by doing things our way?

Welcome to the Green Revolution. Resistance is futile.

Unless you're in China. Do whatever you want and we'll buy your stuff.

I have been recently reading about how some chemicals have been assigned wrong UN Hazard Codes essentially marking them as 'non-green' probably in a bid to promote other much more expensive 'greener' alternative reagents. When the Hazard Code of a material marks it as dangerous customers move their preferneces away (if they can afford it), transport and storage costs of these chemicals multiplies, basically, they are left with no market!

Some academicians set about to proving that the Hazard Codes were wrong, they re-did the stipulated tests and reassigned the chemicals to hazard classifications to find they were actually pretty safe.

This is the green revolution. true.
