Nanotech Fish Story

Posted October 04, 2006 8:00 AM

Nanotechnology may be coming to a tackle box near you. Applied with vapor deposition polymerization, the optical coating on these fishing lures produces an iridescent coating irresistible to fish. Field tests purportedly show that anglers using the lures caught four times as many fish as with other commercially available lures.

"four times as many" - Sounds like a fish-tale to me. Tell me again, How big were they?

not at all. Remember the sides of fish flash with iridescence, so predatory fish look for it.

You forget the primary purpose of fishing lures. They are not designed to catch fish, they are designed to catch fishermen. How do they sell?

I always take a bass in a tank with me when I go shopping for lures.

name brand lure makers do test on lures to see how well that attract predatory fish. The taiwanese ones copy them

live ones, LOL

Lures have been created from a basis of experiment and the best ones seem to have a bit of side reflectance and an assymetrical wiggle to mimic the swimming action of an injured fish that is easier to catch.

Each family of game fish has a set of lures that have evolved over time to be effective at catching them. They may not look like much to our eyes, but a lot of time has been spent in developing them with fish in tanks as well as live fish in the wild.

Lots of hits on these terms, browse in them
