The Katrina Cottage

Want a well-designed home for under $50,000? Not keen on trailers or apartments? One big-box store is ready to provide the answer. The Katrina cottage has living quarters about the size of a McMansion bathroom, but costs only $45 to $55 per square foot. Later this year, four models will go on sale across the hurricane-battered Gulf Coast. Marianne Cusato, a New York-based designer who drafted plans for the cottage, hopes to reach before long.
