It is lost on those of us who are engineers, but I got through it.

I've done it both ways and also had a SMT rework station or two in one business.

But, I came to rely on shops in my area to populate boards, in early stages, because it save me time and worry. There are always some initial learning curves, but once over those it was mostly smooth sailing.

Although it was difficult for me, volumes sometimes dictated sending our work to another state. Never offshore.

Yes, assembly services cost a lot of money, but are worth that cost in most cases, if everyone has done their homework.
