I have used aluminium injection tooling, for a tool to make two complex parts. I cost £4K with a lead time of 4 weeks. Compare this to £60 per part for machined and £30 for 3D printed. therefore Aluminium injection moulding can be justified for >67 parts which is significantly less than 5000 stated in this article, additionally injection moulded parts are representative of serial processes and significantly improved material properties compared to printed.
