The design reminds me of Carnegie Mellon buggies, down to the choice of a very small person to fit inside and steer.

I looked up the density of liquid hydrogen:70.8kg/m^3, which is 268 grams/gallon.

One gram of LH2 is then 14.12 cm^3.

8.5 miles/14.12cm^3 is 2278 miles/gallon of LH2.

That is still an impressive number, but short of 14,573 miles/gallon.

(I just LOVE how MathCAD handles mixed units ;>)
