Figures don't lie but liars figure. You can prove anything with statistics and that is a fact.

This is a good example of that "Butterfly Effect". However, there are so many variables controlled by so many factors, that the outcome could be so much different with a little tweaking here & there. I wouldn't chalk it up as a lost cause.

The lives saved are nameable individuals while the deaths are nebulously global. Individuals tend to make the decision to save individuals rather than saving society. It's tough to convince people otherwise. This is where a government with a focus toward societal growth would step up.

"Government step up" as a result of this kind of panic stricken "analysis" has caused more suffering than any warlord in the DRC fighting over cobalt could ever imagine. The old USSR and the modern China, as well as Venezuela and its current live woes are perfect examples of what "Government step up" causes, even when done with good intentions.

And we've ALL probably heard that "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Sounds more like data phishing. If one starts mining deeper and identifies the additional lives saved, as in miners not killed in the Congo or elsewhere digging minerals or manufacturing the parts damaged in auto collisions, chemicals and pharmaceuticals used to treat auto accident victims which are diverted from other needing patients who may subsequently die, then you can change the result any number of ways.

I question the ethics of the study author as it appears the study was manipulated to get a desired outcome.

Looking for a Nobel, maybe? And it might be a candidate. Both this "research" and the Nobel seem to have jumped the shark lately. At least they can share the other side of the shark, anyway.

So the use of studded tires save live's . But the third world countries where some of the products to make studded tires have no safety standards or they kill each other for god knows what, make the studded tire bad. Please. Keep making the studded tire for us civilized folks. Browniee
