The CAA's current line is that drone operators should always have a clear line off sight to their drone and stay specified distances from crowds or built-up areas. The activity described falls foul of both conditions, and either the CAA guidance will have to be changed (unlikely following the Gatwick fiasco) or network controlled drones will have to be banned in the UK.
