The most important consideration of nuclear power is safety. You didn't mention the disposal of the spent rods. What is the half life of the spent rods? Will they become a time-bomb like the old ones with the 50000 years half-life?

disposal of the spent rods

This is one of the reasons I like fast reactors; they are perhaps 100 times more efficient by using the highly radioactive and long-lived trans-uranic actinides for fuel. This means the most radioactive components of the original fuel are utilized for energy, resulting in spent fuel that needs to be sequestered only a few hundred years instead of many thousands. Thus, there is much less volume of spent fuel that is much less radioactive.

A few hundred years is too much. 25 years should be the max. Remember, there's lots of people out there that don't mind dying to kill others. And, you can't always tell just by looking who they are.

I do wish the new designs would be fast neutron reactors. They are much more efficient, and I think are safer.
