While this technology of antennas in Phased Array has been around for some time. Mostly in Aircraft. The technology only works on Ka band and some on Ku band. These satellite frequencies have trouble working in inclimate weather. The Ka Band any rain will drop out. It uses electronic steering which has issues getting hot and even burning up.

Recently showed at the satellite show in DC one unit burned up. With new Smart Technology, small antennas are being built for C Band with no issues. IP over satellite is great on LEO birds with no latency. However, these systems has to be steerable or fixed. Which they are! Plus they handle everything from 5G to ATSC 3.0. This is a design from Paradigm Shift Technology! NASA also uses this technology.

There is great concern of monitory people from space. They may do this in China, but there are privacy laws in the USA.
