Hmmm... this article is more optimistic about chemical engineering careers than I've heard from people who have actually trained for and worked as chemical engineers. Compared to other engineering disciplines, there are fewer companies that hire chemical engineers. This field is very compartmentalized, with many specialized niches that are not considered easily transferable. My father, who recently retired after about 40 years as a chemical engineer, told me that many companies preferred to hire contractors instead of offering permanent positions. These companies also preferred to rent out experienced engineers from each other rather than recruit from the job-seeking talent pool. As usual, students considering entering an educational path towards a specific career should seek out and talk to people who have already traveled that path, and get their real life experience, rather than rely upon promotional articles like this one.
