Wouldn't all the world's coal deposits hold a lot more mercury than the peat in the permafrost?

Is there a point here?

The perma-frost IS MELTING! "All the world's coal deposits," are NOT BURNING!

Accuracy of the written word must not be important to you.

The article isn't about mercury in coal though. Why bring it up.

For the simple reason that the article states in the first sentence that permafrost is the largest long-term reservoir of sequestered mercury. I suspect that might be inaccurate. If it is an inaccurate assertion, that distorts the message of the article.

So the mercury is mobile from the thaw but doesn't some thaw happen every year?

I smell another research grant being chased for a warming planet bandwagon.

Now if the mercury is mobile will it make the non permafrost thicker because of the expansion of mercury from the warming?
