It's basically a lens that behaves like a pinhole camera, as far as I can tell. The trick, they say, is that an image is only a recording of light amplitude and not relative phase, and that this allows a degree of freedom that can be exploited to control characteristics of the lens. Is it not simply an age old Fresnel lens with smaller dimensions?
