It would be interesting to see the FMEA for this idea. What happens if the cable fails and the plane comes free? I find it hard to believe there is a fail-safe mode to crash.

Brilliant - Thinking out of the box! There are locations around the world that this could be safely adapted. The electronics involved in following the wind should surely accommodate a broken cable, bad weather, external events etc. Love the idea!

So the earth is flat then.

Compare it to first generation remote operated toys. I remember when "remote" included a wire from the control to the vehicle. Not any more! It's the possibility that needs investment.

No the earth is not flat, but there is no practicality in the economics of this device. Go ahead and invest your money.
