They still need lube and cleaning. I don't care what they claim. X-Ring chains have been in the motorcycle market for decades. There is still rolling action between the chain rollers and the sprocket teeth. You want to cushion the rollers as the hit the teeth on the sprockets. When you ride, you can hear that noise from the chain. And also the chain sideplates against the sides of sprocket teeth. Most of the wear is on the faces of the teeth.
