We had an interesting problem with capacitive fingerprint sensors. There is a separate sluice-gate for my company at the airport, with a fingerprint-reader in the middle. Especially during winter we often get stuck inside, between the two gates. The solution was to put a naked grounding cable next to the card reader and ask everybody to touch it before the fingerprint sensor.

The cause of the problem was static discharge via the sensor which resulted in the failure of the sluice-gate logic circuits.
