Social impacts in the middle of the ocean? Environmental issues I can understand that people will have their concerns about fisheries or toxic plumes from agitating the seafloor perhaps and so on. Or even economic zones near countries. But social impacts? What is the context?

4.3 km down...? I don't think there is any impact at all, that's too deep to effect anything but maybe a few deep sea lifeforms that get pushed about a bit....might inject a little more life down there...
