Philippa Foot in 1967. Considering the hypothetical scenario is well outdated and that people have developed alternate thinking and realities, this scenario is no longer valid to modern day thinking and realities. People have changed values along with the programmers who are all far younger and have alternate views, responsibilities, and outlooks to formulate their decision process.

This will also affect the accident investigators decision to consider many variables from censors to designers, to manufacturers, builders of the vehicles and of course the service techs of these vehicles. The owner, who will be forced to deal with an authorised service agent, who places his trust in his vehicle to respond correctly in any situation has limited responsibilty, (in my view), so this does pose a dilemma and of course insurance companies will do all to avoid any payout, leaving the vehicle owner, (as normal), to bear the brunt of costs and responsibility.

If this is applicable to passenger type vehicles, how is this to be managed when heavy goods vehicles are driverless on our roads. Who makes the modern day decision with HGV's?
