I have read the article and come to think how the hinge connection could be done without a slit at the outer bend to prevent drag or end joint air turbulence. Either you will do it hydraulically with folding lever arms that increases the thickness of the wing.

May i suggest that a torsional method be applied if possible to maintain airdynamic of the wing tip.
