Maybe one of the most effective ways to combat the fake markets is to mass serialise the original goods and empower the customers to check the originality and other product’s characteristics. Serialization is maybe the most powerful and cost effective anti-counterfeit solution, for example the solution offered by MY-VALIDACTOR is immediately available, easy to implement and at a cost near to zero.

The problem with serialization is that it can some of the most common components to counterfeit are the tiniest, cheapest, high volume parts. Such parts sometimes cost pennies each and have yearly volumes in the billions. It would be relatively expensive and uneconomical to serialize such components. An alternative solution to serialization is tractability- a paper trail is created as the components are exchanged. If counterfeit components are found, the paper trail is investigated to determine where things went wrong and whose fault it is.
