I'm calling bs on the supposed '5 year mean' in the first graph. There is no way that line represents the 5 year mean of the data plotted.

I really enjoyed your article thank you. I read somewhere that There are many plants that tolerate salt so “ ..with human ingenuity there is absolutely no reason why deserts near sea coasts should continue to remain barren..” … could one go a step further and also create flotsam islands planted with salt tolerant forests towed out to barren parts of the oceans? Could one use plantations in deserts near sea coasts to harvest the water from transpiration?

Bubbling air to the anoxic zones of the ocean would restart vast ready made ranches of salt tollerant plants, on the cheap.
