I was founding member, lead guitarist, songwriter, Producer and MD for a band called Australian crawl. We were probably the biggest band in Australia by 1982/3, but egos clashed and the boat sank.
Lived in Japan for about 18 months after that at one time, and 12 months another. I collect old Japanese swords and vintage guitars. I love dirt bikes, used to race Motocross, then Enduro, and am waiting fo the opportunity to buy a new Husaberg 650.
Lived in the Hollywood Hills for a while and had a great band with Joe Ely's piano player and The Motels first drummer. Great drummer named Kyle See Kyle.
Had a great time. Hung out with John Cusack, Tim Robbins and some other actors who were to become succesful. And some who didn't. Just about to sign to EMI when my dad died and I had to come home.
After appropriate time for respect, based in Singapore for three years or so, as the first Caucasian based in that region. I wrote music for film and TV throughout Asia from 1988 to 1991.
Lived in Jakarta for almost a year.
Inspired by listening to Woody Guthrie in earnest for the first time, I am starting a new band now.
Woody started the folk movement - music of the people, by the people, for the people. Before business took over and disassembled our relevance over the next 40 year or so.
Then someone turned up an amp and we had rock music. The guitar took over as icon of a generation.
I'm going to take back the reins. In my small corner at least.
Simon Binks.
