CR4 Search Precedence

03/24/2015 5:42 PM

Upon doing a web search, via various engines, for 'Engineering Forums' I found that CR4 doesn't show up until Page 3 (utilizing default search engine settings) on most of the main ones.

Kind of surprising since I feel that the caliber of this forum (member terseness notwithstanding) is pretty high. Anyway IHS can adjust associated tags to increase visibility?

This is not a "for profit" endeavour.....

Please no, let's not.

We get far too many inept anonymous posters and Cavalier questions already.

So that's who's behind it! The Cavaliers! Forewarned is forearmed.

Shows up as number one on this list:

http://www.mastersinengineering.org/top-40-engineering-forums-message-boards

This, I believe, as it should be.

I don't remember what I was looking for when I found CR4... allowable glass sizes or types for fire rated windows within varied model building codes, I think.

Funny, I don't remember why I stumbled onto it, but once I did, I was hooked.

I am sure it was not a global warming thread.

Let me think.

I have it! It was the old and famous Bath Tube Breaking thread that hooked me!

If anyone still has a copy this would be hilarious!

You're right. I did a little forensics and found my first post to the forum was about VW maintenance/troubleshooting. As I recall, I had a 2005 Jetta that had some noise emanating from the front end and I was searching to see if anyone else with this car had similar complaints.

The end result was that my tires were worn, and when I replaced the OEM skins, the noise went away.

Now, if I had owned a Cavalier, I probably would have been on the site years sooner.

Your using the wrong search engine, find a Middle Eastern search engine and you'll find CR4 under home work answering services

Very rarely the best is also the most famous (in any field), that's why connoisseurs exist.

It is our fault for not putting enough effort into answering the Chevy Cavalier questions.

It seems that the Cavalier was a joke from the start.

Cavalier is probably the longest running joke on CR4. Bit of a mystery to me, but if you've never been in a 'Bond Bug' that you corner into 2-wheels, you've never lived. Just my opinion. Can't find a pic to show, but a good friend did exactly that. I stood watching him depart and do exactly that when he hit a roundabout. Luckily he was also a biker and managed to handle it.

It is a regular complaint on this forum that many OPs could answer their own questions if they would only persevere to page two of a web search. Is finding us before they find their own answer a good idea.

If I dong in 'cr4', it's normally about 3rd on the list (first page of results). Today, for reasons that escape me, it came up as #1.

It's possible to 'pimp' a website, but most search engines check for such activity (and will duly thwack whoever). What you get depends upon your search history, and also the credibility/popularity of the site.

It's highly unlikely that Admin will reveal how they promote CR4. They maybe have a few tricks, but mostly it's about good quality content spreading the news and resulting in more hits. The ambiguity of CR4/Globalspec/IHS may have messed things a bit, but things will settle out.
