Soaking in water? Acid? Oven at 400 Deg C?

How excessive?

5 mins? 5 hours? 5 days? 5 years?

What size piece? I suspect that smaller pieces would be more affected if the atmosphere included other impurities.

I'm asking this as an EE knowing that the metallurgists and other specialists will need detailed specifics before they could even begin to respond in a meaningful manner.

4)Holding temperature 600 degree centigrade

A general rule that is generally followed most of the time is if you let it soak for more than the designated time it will begin to burn off the carbon resulting in soft parts that will never get hard.
