I disagree. There are many software packages available that expedite the paperwork of planning and inventory control. Usually the problems of planning and inventory control come from people. People do not plan properly. People also frequently bypass inventory control. The problems are rarely in the software.

GA from me on this one. Software is only as good as the data that is input, usually by humans who have a tendancy to make errors or not make entries. Same old saying goes, "garbage in, garbage out".

Redfred, my apologies for for not reading your post before saying the same thing in mine. All the years of annual physical inventory with mandatory attendance, except by the very people who are responsible for discrepancies, i.e.: "My customer needs that part NOW, and screw the rules", have clouded my comprehension. No amount of sophistication for software has ever cured this.

As I see it, the weak link in inventory control will always be the human element. For machines, accurate input, accurate output. For humans, somewhat accurate input/output governed by human personality traits. I suppose if the software could produce a reward/punishment output interface to a human, this would be a step towards solving "problem".

We use Sage 200 but I would not recommend it. It is clunky & glitchy and we have to alter our operating methods to suit the software rather than have the software work the way we would like it to.
