Building Quadcopter Robot

05/10/2015 7:21 PM

Hi!
I am building my own quadcopter from scratch but it will not be only a quadcopter. It will be a droid/bot,
Problems:
1) What kind of coding/application/environment for developing quadcopter navigation system through a software (e.g. googlemaps)
2) Is there self-adjusting/non-crashing automation for quadcopters?
Please feel free to answer any kind of link/website/shop/ whatever comes to your mind that could help me further I need the battery to last 1 hour. 3.7V 600mAh 25C Lipo Battery works for 10 minutes (for a 500 gram vehicle), so I guess 10 times stronger battery?
What kind of Ah and V would be optimal?

A very ambitious project. Quite a few guides exist online to help you on your way.

https://www.google.co.nz/#q=building+your+own+quadcopter

Remember to perform plenty of research first before starting anything, especially if you want to include automation software to assist flying.

There are probably kit sets you can purchase if you want the fun of building something rather than buying it complete that will actually work in the end. Not as much fun, but far less hassle and cheaper.

You have a lot more research to do.

Check out many websites, in addition to the ones listed here, and go to a hobby/quad-geek site also.

Search the internet.

This is not a geek site.

Figure out how much a 600maH Lipo battery weighs. Figure out how much a 6000maH battery weighs. Compare that to the lift capacity of your quad-copter.

Ten times multiplier is a good safe engineering start. Theoretically you only need X6 not X10 - but the extra weight will ruin your lift capability, because part will go to lifting the extra battery weight. You probably won't be able to carry much if you increase it by that much.

6X the battery capacity would only increase the time by 6X if it didn't add any more weight.

I'm building copters with brains, and I can tell you for certain that it is the battery you are flying. The rest of it is copter!

You must start by building a frame as strong and lightweight as possible and then you can start adding brains and radios. Weigh it again, and then size your motors, motor controllers, props, and then the batteries.

Voltage will determine the max RPM of the motors. Capacity will determine the weight and flight time with those motors and props.

One hour is a very long flight. I can get 20 -30 min out of my lightest/strongest setup. I could get much longer flight times if it were a fixed wing craft rather than a copter. Copters have to lift themselves and stay up with what energy they have on board, and so,

you are flying a battery!

2) Is there self-adjusting/non-crashing automation for quadcopters? It involves sensors and programming, i have used Arduino Mega 2560 R3 for such, but in your application weight of the sensors, board and PS is a great factor.

For this type of endurance you may want consider an IC engine some where in the design.
