The CIA Goes Green

10/19/2005 7:15 AM

The Christian Science Monitor reports that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is investing in a solar and wind powered generator that can produce up to 150 kW of electricity. The units are designed to be dropped by parachute, setup within a few hours, and operated for years with little maintenance. According to Scott Sklar, vice president of SkyBuilt, the Mobile Power Station is designed to "plop and drop, plug and play".

PLOP & PLAY

10/20/2005 4:07 AM

To me this is amazing equipment, not only for disaster relief, but soooooooo many other applications. For example, a few years ago I worked on a project in Far East Russia - for the first several months we went without power or water (hot or cold) many times. This would have made life so much easier.
