Finishing Processes for Removing Sharp Edges

07/17/2007 7:51 AM

In my company currently, we have a huge issue with sharp edges on the outside of a rear panel which is assembled on a cabinet. My project is to look for possible short or long term solutions to the problem. The panel is made of galvanized steel about 2mm thick and is stamped in a press and I heard about a way of oxidizing or burning off the slightly thinner burrs on the edge as an extra process. Does any one have references where I can get more information on such a process or what it does.

We punch on up to 30,000 pieces a month as standard production, the majority of which have to have the burs removed. Does your process allow for mechanical removal? If so :-
