Less Friction

07/09/2015 5:37 PM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSiC7D8patUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvKH-BYQcoMin response to the thread on cage-less ball bearings. for years racers have known better ways to beat friction than the general public. I found the other bearing novel but with no load data it seems like a gimmick. in NASCAR and F1 the treatment of metal surfaces to a high polish...such as REM followed by microshotpeening will not only free up HP but make parts last far longer. the polish is obvious the peening creates tiny reservoirs for lubrication, so rather than a film the entire surface is altered to be less friction. if the cage-free is better NASCAR will be running it next week...I doubt that.http://www.microblueracing.com/

In some applications I can see where bearing friction losses could be a concern but in many applications bearing looses are the least of the efficiency issues that need addressing.

Does it take an air pump to operate these bearings?

Hydro-static bearings.
