Biogas to Electricity

07/18/2007 2:58 PM

Does anyone knows or can tell me where to find information regarding converting cubic meters of Biogas (mostly methane) to calories so I can determine the proper combustion engine and generator.

The Biogas meter only has the cubic meter lecture. Pressure of Biogas can be considered at no more than 5 psi.

Dear Mexson,

If you email me, I will gladly introduce to you, (under non-disclosure / non-compete), your manufacturer for both the engine and generator. This will undoubtedly save you tens of thousands of difficult hours of engineering and well over 20 million dollars in RnD.

The solutions I am familiar with are world class and complete.

You will be satisfied with my results.

Serious inquiries only; please.

I await your response,

methaan is 802 kJ/mol or 35,8 MJ/Nm3
1J (joule) = 4.186 Cal (calorie)

Calorific value of biogas is typically in range 23 - 27 MJ (6.4 - 7.5 kWh) per standard m3. Efficiency of conversion to electricity is about 25 - 30 % depending on size of plant, so for every m3/h biogas electric output is 1.6 - 2.25 kW.
