Elgo P40 Controller

08/24/2015 10:18 AM

Hi, just joined the site and am desperate for some info concerning the Elgo P40 controller.

I am planning on using an Elgo P40 Controller to control a 3 phase motor via an inverter.

We are running sheet metal along a conveyor and at set distances we want the conveyor to run for say 1m a guillotine to cut the sheet metal and then for the elgo to move on another meter for say 10 times.

I can't find anything on line and the uk support is not good. does any one know if i could do this with a p40-002 or a p40-000 controller?

Seems to be quite a bit of info. available online. May need to avail yourself of Google translate here & there.

if you are not familiar with encoders you have more problems, I suggest you and or your employer hire a consultant to come to your site and walk you through a set-up. your desperation will not be solved by a forum.

Hi I am familiar with encoders , that's not the problem. Really I just wanted conformation of the configuration that I need. All I want to do is cut a number of pieces of sheet metal to various lengths so the P40-000 would work. I know I only need one encoder input A,B,Z. I want an output signal to go high each time it reaches the set distance and input signal to tell it to move to the next set distance.

So all I really wanted was to confirm that I don't need any analogue o/p signals

Depending on the situation, you may want the analogue output in order to step/ramp the speed. You did say you were using an inverter (VFD?).

This company, one of Lyn's links, says they are the UK distributor for Elgo. Something in the P40 family looks like it would work. But you have to make sure you order the specific options you need - encoder interface, digital/analog output, etc. But I suspect you know all this. I would just say, in my experience, if you can't get support at the purchase phase you probably won't get support with set-up, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc. Maybe a competitor would be a better choice.
