Opto-isolated USB-interface

07/27/2007 5:51 AM

Hi all,

Is there someone who knows an opto-isolated USB-interface ? I mean a relative simple converter, no USB-to-PC-to-ethernet-to-opto-to-ether...... and so on-solution.
Thanks Uwe

Can you explain why you need opto-isolators? If it's just electrical isolation, I'd recommend using one of the NVE magnetic isolator chips. Much better than optos. Transformer coupling - like is commonly used on ethernet interfaces - might be another approach.

Bhankiii,

yes, it`s "just" electrical isolation, but more than 5kV partial discharge free and with a low coupling capacity of <10pF. Those NVEs are only good for "normal" surroundings, not for HV applications. I found that those manufacturers often brag with isolations of thousands of volts but whwn you read the data sheet its only for 1 second or one minute and VDE approbations only allow use in mains applications up to 250V AC.
Thanks Uwe

Uwe,

Isolated converters may be found here.

Sounds like you may be looking for a hub. That would be nice.

Luck, Duce
