Time for Change

02/01/2016 1:44 PM

ADMINS: Putting this in the commercial space, but if it's inappropriate regardless, feel free to delete it and accept my apologies.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Working in the Oil and Gas sector as a CAPEX Project Manager has resulted in a layoff, effective today - not a lot of Capital being spent at the moment, so it makes sense.

Wanted to reach out to the CR4 portion of my network to let you all know that I'm currently evaluating opportunities. So, if you are aware of any that you think I might be a good fit for, please reach out to me via private message and we can discuss.

Regards,

JavaHead

Sorry to hear of your job loss. I'm not really all that familiar with what a CAPEX Project Manager does, but my company may have a need for someone with your kind of skills. (In my Army life a CAPEX was a Capabilities Exercise, but in your case, I'm assuming it is Capital Expenditures.)

I would encourage you to peruse

http://www.northropgrumman.com/Careers/CareerAreas/Pages/Business.aspx

It is going to forward to Taleo.net for the job search engine. I did a quick search using "capital" and "project" as keywords in the business area and came up with this in Austin.

B.S.R.:

Thanks for the reply and the lead. You're correct in the context of CAPEX, it helps narrow down the area of Project Management. My area of focus recently has been is managing large to medium-scale Capital Investment projects (i.e. New Facilities, New Equipment, etc.)

A recent project I was the PM for was a brand new manufacturing facility on ~40 acres that included 6 manufacturing lines, warehouse space, laboratories (ChemLabs and Metlabs), office and employee support. It had a rail spur, scale house, loading docks, with the balance of the site stabilize for equipment and product storage.

Those types of projects only come around every 5 years or so, so the majority of my time is spent managing a project portfolio of facility/process improvement projects (add zinc-phos to Production Line X, increase throughput of Production Line Y, upgrade antiquated Production Line Z with PLCs, move this production line from the west coast to the east coast, build a waste water treatment plant for a remote location, so on and so forth.

Regarding the lead, looks like they are looking for a Project Management Office (PMO) Manager to provide oversight over the entirety of the IT project portfolio. I've been a Portfolio Manager in a PMO setting, just not in the IT realm. But I've never let stuff like 'not knowing what I'm doing' get in my way before ;-)

Thanks again!

I pretty much figured that was the case, but I've kept to the engineering side of things and facilities are handled by people I don't even know.

I understand that particular listing was of an IT nature but there are probably other ones on there. I just noticed that one was in Texas. Not sure of your desire to or not to relocate.

I work at fairly small site for Northrop that has about 300 employees. Feels like a family here. Your skills would probably be more in demand at a facility like our BWI location that has thousands of employees, acres of facilities and buildings all over, and all kinds of infrastructure changes and improvements as facilities are built up to support various contracts and programs.

Best wishes on your quest for new employment.
