Those coils definitely indicate some form of ion accelerator, albeit a small one compared to European efforts. Maybe just a plasma generator for some specific purpose.

Talking of relativity. On a planet that is approximately spherical, given the only fixed reference as the Rocky Mountains (with the exception of those who are due north or south of the Rocky Mountains) we are all east of the Rocky Mountains. Some of us further east than others.

JHH-...that's messed up my day...I thought I was West of the Rockies by quite a long way.

But as to the object - East or West - I have no idea.

Would ir be reasonable to say there was only one of them? - if so it rules out my guess that it is from a digital clock fountain pen - because there are lots of them - where some are probably N & S of the Rockies - as well.

Re: What Is It?

I don't see why not. Everybody else has been referencing to the Prime Meridian (which just happens to pass through Greenwich UK) for the last 265 years. When I say everybody I of course exclude the GPS system which uses a reference 102 meters east of the Prime Meridian because they based locations on WGS84 which had cocked up its own calculations a little earlier. (The entomology of 'cocked up' comes from incorrectly triangulating three points. Then the vectors are drawn on a chart the lines do not intersect at a single point but form a triangle where they nearly intersect. The triangle resembled the shape of a cocked hat which was normal naval officer head ware at the time and that is how the term was coined.)

Actually I only responded because this morning the accumulative total on my exercise bicycle reached 1492 miles. (I add one mile each day and my wife contributes a second mile) That got me thinking about Columbus who sailed West, on the ocean blue in 1492, to find the East Indies. In the terms of his desired objective that must have been one of the most spectacular failures of the 15th century. My point being that all such things are relative.

jhh....Columbus got credit for it because he was a great salesman and politician.

When he set out on his voyage of discovery he didn't know where he was going. When he got there he didn't know where it was. When he got back he didn't know where he'd been - and it didn't cost him a penny - it was all paid for by using somebody else's money.

No, no.

You're describing the U.S. Congress and all of our political leaders.
