confusion is Gateway word . one is energy meters for measuring out going power of power plant form getting signal form CT and PTs and that is gateway energy meters. ?
In the world of "smart meters", the term "Gateway" refers to the fact that rather than just recording and transmitting the whole house useage data, the meter can communicate, via line modem technology, with specific appliances WITHIN the house that are "Smart Meter Enabled" so that the utility can look at individual load useage , not just the lump sum total. The meter is then acting as a network gateway for the utility into your home appliances. So for example if you have air conditioning and the utility tells everyone to curtail their A/C use during peak hours, they can tell who cheated and give them a penalty.
At my house now, I signed up for a deal with my utility that allows them to disable my A/C during peak use emergencies since I am usually not home anyway. In exchange for that, I get a lower nighttime rate but if I stay home and override the A/C lockout, they put me at the higher rate for the entire month. That is all enabled by my gateway meter.
