wave energy

07/31/2007 11:55 PM

i am a third year Btech student. i have completed construction of an ossilating water column with a bidirectional turbine. the model worked fine because the oscillations were created using a block piston. the frequency of the waves and thus the frequency of the air culumn oscillations were exagerated. but in the real environment, the frequency of the waves is not so high. please can some one give me an idea of a device which will act to increase the freq of the oscillating column by using the normal freq of the waves...

Hmmmm. Is this an attempt to change the real world of wave behaviour into such a form that the design will work? Would it be better to change the design so that it will work in the world of real wave behaviour?

I agree with guest..

You need to think / or explain to us.. Exactly what it is you need to increas...

Is it really frequency or is it swept volume? Water velocity? Amplitude?

I cant see a way of changing the frequency (well, only by trying to get some tuned oscillation of the water column which is a pretty bad idea)...but the other parameters can be adjusted.

Tell us more..and you may get us hooked...

What you want is a frequency multiplier to obtain a higher frequency water column from normal ocean/lake waves.

Net result is no gain in output of turbine.

Are you seeking some other outcome?

i think OWC has become a vital research area for most of the energy organisations and the concept u have taken is reasonable. however i would suggest u to build a prototype that can be used for investigations on a much wider scale.try on the shore for shallow waves. u can use the water channel with different pump speeds and wave generator to make the required wave frequency

thank u,

i have access to a cussons wave generator and a wave chanell. i am part of a three member group which will research the energy in waves throughout this semester. however our project hs been limited to lab research. i will be attempting to design a prototype using local conditions. please feel free to offfer your ideas. thanks
