high viscosity -- fast drain

08/04/2007 4:52 AM

I want to add some (yet unknown) chemical in the glove dipping compound formulation to increase drain speed after dipping without decreasing viscosity. I know there are some physical methods to increase drain of the compound .But at present I need some chemical .Any one knows about it ?

This seems like a contradictory requirement to me..how about vibration or centrifugal force to help dripping?

Del,

There's no contradiction to be found, which cannot be met, given enough force.....

Most such additives do indeed work by viscosity changes. One thing that should work for you is to induce a lot of small air bubbles to the liquid when you are ready to discharge. This will greatly reduce the viscosity and aid discharge. Vacuum de-aereate after discharge to return the liquid to its original state, w/o a chemical change. Otherwise, your liquid will run off the glove molds faster and create voids and thin spots, plus require multiple dips, if you tamper with the internal viscosity.

add a thixotropic agent.

This is a shear dependance of viscosity. So your dipping fluid is thinner to start, but as it runs off quickly the layer gets thinner and thinner and the velocity(shear) falls and a structure emerges and it is a gel like solid. There are specialists in thixotrop(h)y, search for them

I have read recently an internet page about "Tom Effect" which describes the effect of long chain stretchy polymer molecules on the flow of fluids . This additive increase the speed of flow of fluids having high viscosity . Do you know about it ?

I have added regular bleach to increase the speed of water draining off a product. I dont know what effect it make have on gloves or the chemical your currently using.
