Expansion Board or new motherboard or what?

08/04/2007 12:15 PM

I am in the process of refurbishing another computer. The new motherboard includes only one (1) slot for hard drive, CD and or DVD, not both. I would like to use this board because it has everything I need other than a second slot for a ribbon cable for either the CD or DVD. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Thank You,

Matt

Get a SATA Drive PCI or PCIe board to add drives. There are many SATA DVD and DVDR drives as well as SATA Hard Drives.

Why do ya limit yourself with junk, why not buy something more useful. Time spent better for a few extra $$

Mainly Cost, It was given to me. It has nothing special but I already had the processor and cooler to fit. So I thought I'd take advantage of it.

Thanx for your help,

Matt

It's likely there are two sata interfaces on it. Use sata hard drives.

Buy a Pci IDE card and just insert it in an empty slot connect up the cables and when you boot up load the drivers from the disc with it and your good to go, the card i have can run 4 channels, so i have 4 DVD Writers and still have 2 channels left to add 2 IDE drives, these card cost around £10.

But you would have been better of getting a better board to start with, just out of cuiosity what has this board got thats special
