Antenna to supplement PV power systems

08/05/2007 12:41 PM

I attempted several years ago to develop an antenna which would pull static electricity into a plate capacitor (for surge protection)and then feed this built up charge as input into a PV system. If anyone is intreested, I will provide the schematic and original Patent disclosure (US) and will assist in this development where I can

Please don't read this as me 'having a go' but I feel to some extent that patents just inhibit development.

If you've had a try at this and not moved it on, but feel you have some good ideas why not just put them into the public domain?

I wanted to post a 'chellenge question' based on a recent product I designed...the company I designed it for said 'NO' as it is subject to a patent applicatoin.

I think this is silly as in my view the patent has little real merit and the ideas are there to see if you buy the product...

Patent agents make money by encouraging people to juxtapose two relatively obvious concepts and then try to patent the combination...

Ohhh I know a taco with spaghettii bolognese in it...let's spend a fortune patenting the idea.

Sorry if this seem like a rant....

...Oh yes ..I am interested in the subject and concept but would only ever play with it rather than be a serious developer or investor.

You're right Del. They also don't offer any real protection unless you've got lots of money to back up a court challenge. Jeff

my e-mail is jamesdolan2@yahoo.com. much of what I have is in hardcopy and will take a couple of days to scan in. The surge capacitor sizing was the point I had no expertise on and the amount of resistance which would be needed to insure that a lightning strike would jump the capacitor, and NOT fry the PV system.

yes, I'm interested. I emailed you.

To my knowledge, there isn't a capacitor capable of witholding a lightning strike. Capacitors only deal in minute farads, and voltage ratings that don't even approach the size of force held in lightning.

I don't know much about lightening arresters either, and I'm only the new guy on the block. There're some experts here that will offer an opinion in lightning regards... maybe.

about patents.

its a property right, and tho there're arguments as above, its not the way things work at this time. And I doubt if it will change anytime soon. People are not encouraged to invest time and energy into things that don't profit them directly, and only rare individuals subscribe to that group set.

So, in the event that all knowledge became instantly free, who would be encouraged to develop it knowing that competition will mean very little return if any.

nah, its ok to work with what we have, and the way its arranged. and hopefully, those that subscribe to the rare group of individuals achieve the position where they can employ their mindset.

also, there's the issue of developing larger knowledge leaps because not everyone is working from the same knowledge set. where as the knowledge "all there" can tend people become lazy in thought processors, and not fully understand the ground or base set.

Look at the areas of society where food is in such abundance, people become FAT and lazy, unless they're food conscious and because they're not encouraged to expend energy for the lack of hunting for food.
